Commercial office lighting is greatly determined by the ceiling structure and the layout of the office. The most popular are three:

• LED Panel Lights: These are typically suspended off-grid ceiling drops. They are open-floor standard and have a wide, even distribution of light.
• Linear Lights: Hanging either off the ceiling or surface-mounted. These have a brilliant contemporary architectural appearance with their smooth surfaces ideal above desks or conferences.
• Recessed Downlights: These are directly mounted in the ceiling. They are generally installed to focus on illumination along a corridor, in a reception area, or in a meeting room.

The brightness is determined in units of “Lux” and acquisition of the same is important to any illumination in workplace because excess light leads to glare, and the reverse is also true.

The following are the general suggestions:

• Standard Computer Desks & Reading Areas: 500 Lux will be comfortably focused.
• Reception and Break rooms: 300 Lux is enough to make them feel welcome and at ease.
• Corridors and Transit Zones: Just require approximately 150-200 Lux to navigate safely.

Knowing the interaction of light on the desk can revolutionize your architecture:

• Direct Lighting: Sheds directly down on the desk. It is very good in task emphasis only and tends to produce severe shadows at times.
• Indirect Lighting: Reflects light off of either the ceiling or wall, and is far more diffuse, making the desk a lot less shadowy.
• The Better Solution: A hybrid approach is applied to many modern designs to strike the right balance between brightness and visual comfort in an everyday office lighting system.

Color temperature (measured in Kelvin/K) directly affects employee mood and circadian rhythms.

• For Working Areas (4000K): A neutral “Natural White” is the golden standard for professional office lighting solutions. It mimics natural daylight, keeping employees alert without being overly harsh.
• For Lounge Areas (3000K): Warmer tones (“Warm White”) are much better suited for break rooms or reception desks to create a relaxing atmosphere.
