(1) What is the difference between high bay lights and low bay lights?

They are the same type, but configured with different beam angles. Low cabins are usually adjusted with a beam angle of 120 degrees and used in open spaces where the ceiling height does not exceed 15 feet. They are ideal for showrooms, retail stores and grocery stores. The beam angle of high bay lamps is 90 degrees or less, and the installation height exceeds 15 feet. They usually produce more than 20,000 lumens and are very suitable to replace traditional 400W metal halide or HPS lamps.

The following are the main factors you need to consider:

Ceiling height-according to the height you plan to install, different ceiling heights choose the correct lumens to illuminate your space.

Lighting Application-According to your business needs, you will choose the shape of the lamp. High bay lights are divided into two shapes: round and linear. Circular lamps are very suitable for open spaces such as grocery stores, retail stores and workshops. The counterpart is more suitable to be placed along the aisle.

Color Temperature (CCT)-Depending on your application, you will choose the color spectrum you want. LED is usually adjusted between 2700K and 6500K. The lower the temperature, the warmer the color (yellow). The traditional high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamp is about 2700K, which produces more yellow tones and is not suitable for commercial spaces. 5000K (cool white) seems to be the best choice for warehouse and retail applications. The higher the temperature, you will start to feel blue throughout the room.

Lighting controls-To further reduce energy consumption, please look for dimmable commercial lighting equipment. When paired with a dimmable occupancy sensor, you can set it to 10% when idle. Once motion is detected, they will return to 100% to provide proper lighting. Another solution is to install a 0-10V dimmer. If it is too bright, you can choose to dim it.

You may also hear the term "Color Rendering Index" or "CRI". In short, it measures how true colors are displayed in light and how they are displayed in sunlight. The higher the CRI, the more real it is. Most commercial warehouse lighting is set to 80 CRI, which is sufficient for most applications.
